I hemmed and hawed on this purchase and finally settled on the Antec -
notebook cooler. I use it under my Dell Inspiron 6000 and it is smaller than my notebook, but stable. I did not use the little stick-on footpads that come with it.
The USB cable is stored in a little cubby under the cooler and the clasp on that is pretty flimsy. Would not want to get in and out of it too often as it fell apart right away, although it did snap back together.
I'm very pleased with how quiet it is. Let me say, it's not silent, but it is no louder than the fan in the computer. The blue light does not annoy me at all. Think of all the lights in the room...this is just one more. Turn it off at night.
There are two settings, low and high and low works fine. My computer never gets warm.
The first day I used it, I noticed a strange metallic smell, but that was gone in 24 hours. You will notice the air coming out
the front of the unit too (not a plus in winter) but not a big deal.
Like another reviewer, I am not happy with my keyboard being raised another 1.5 inches. Also, you don't want this one if you plan to put it
on your lap. It is meant to sit between your computer and a hard surface.
Serves my purpose just fine. I'll get one for my mom's new laptop as well.
So, I say, if you want a laptop cooler, this is a good option.
