There is definitely something wrong with this media. I have been using a double-layer burner for a couple of years now and I haven't had any significant problems until buying the Memorex brand.
I didn't have any trouble with the previous media that I had been using (Verbatim). I also didn't have any problems recording to any other kind of media (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, etc.).
When I bought Memorex double-layer media I began experiencing nearly a 100% failure rate!
I tried recording at slower speeds (my recorder's slowest speed for DL media is 4x). No joy.
I updated my DVD recorder's BIOS with the latest version from the manufacturer. No change.
I tried using a different PC with a newer DVD recorder and I had better results: but still about a 30% failure rate (still not acceptable).
However, since the other machine worked better, I thought that the problem might be my DVD recorder. I bought a new one.
Now I can record more reliably: but only if I use the slowest speed of 4x. Memorex rates their media at 8x.
I'm buying Verbatim from now on.
