I love this bag. It is filled with all sorts of handy pockets and compartments that can be used for a verity of things. It is not overly designed or too specific, just a verity of pockets at a verity of sizes. I do not not know what the mesh pocket behind the front flap was designed for, but it is perfect for holding large rolled drawings sets or my tripod.
This bag holds a tremendous amount. I have routinely loaded it to over 50 pounds when I was carrying books and computer to school. It has held up really well. I have owned it for over 3 years and it has traveled around the world with me. The only wear is cosmetic. I have yet to have a functional failure anywhere on the bag.
It is really really large, which is why I love it, but it is really really large. I am now looking into purchasing a smaller backpack for times when I do not need as much space, though small backpacks that can handle a 17" mobile workstation are hard to come by. The only real caveat I have is that the bag is so large that it may not be suitable for smaller framed females.
