I needed a backpack to hold a 17" laptop, and chose this one.
It is the most attractive, biggest, most comfortable, most durable backpack I've ever owned (though I've always bought cheapies in the past). The drink holders are somewhat insulative and it stands on its own with most reasonable loads. It is very comfortable to wear with heavy and light loads. I've never cared what my backpack looked like, but this one will increase your attractiveness at least marginally when worn.
The compartment that houses the laptop will not hold much else when a 17" is inserted. I can fit 1-2 textbooks in with the laptop, depending on size. The 2nd large compartment has tons of room for books and notes, though. Additionally, the second "front" pocket is large enough to fit 5-6 composition pads at least.
There is not a great spot to put a TI graphing calculator. If your like me, thats a bit of a negative, but I don't think you will regret getting this pack!!!Get more detail about Swiss Gear Ibex 17-Inch Notebook Backpack.
